On Friday, December 29th, Congregation Beth Shalom took advantage of the winter recess and hosted its first ever College Night Shabbat Dinner and Service; an event we hope will become an annual "homecoming" tradition for our college students and their parents. After a dinner served up of typical college fare (New York style pizza and cokes) during which our collegians had a chance to reconnect with their former CBS classmates and friends, the group joined in readings, tradition and song along with many members of the congregation for the shabbat service. Rabbi Ned Soltz provided an inspiring sermon about coming home, and where exactly "is" home once one has embarked on this new chapter in their life. After service, the congregation enjoyed an oneg sponsored by parents and congregants. Stories were exchanged, friendships were renewed, and the date, Friday December 28, 2007, was set for College Night II.
