Iron Chef Tu Bishvat

On Sunday, January 20 our religious school celerbated Tu BiShvat (the birthday of the trees) in Iron Chef style!

We met at the social hall for a brief assembly that explained the holiday, the benefits we get from trees, how important they are to our environment, and how Judaism is concerend with the environment.
Then, every class had one hour to come up with and cook recipes with the secret ingredient - dried fruit and nuts.

The kids outdid themselves! Our judges were so impressed that instead of one first place prize they awarded four: first place for creativity, first place for team work, first place for presentation and first place for taste.

The enteries were an edible tree, from Mrs. Ninio’s second and third grade class; A Tu Bishvat presentation with fruit, nuts, and dip from Mrs. Markson’s fourth grade; an assortment of pies from Stephanie Levy and Rebekah Posner’s fifth grade and edible scultpures from Mr. Rosenstein’s sixth grade.

Everything was delicious and well crafted, and everyone, students, teachers, and judges had a wonderful time.
