Sam Weiger’s Bar Mitzvah project involves collecting school supplies for Ethiopian Jewish kids in Israel to help with their educational needs. At the present time, 45% of Ethiopion Israeli children lack the basic school supplies essential to learning. Ethiopian familes can not afford them and Israeli schools don’t supply them.
Here is a list of the needed school supplies. Unopened packages rather than individual pens or markers are most appropriate for sending overseas. (if they are not on this list, please do not purchase them)
* Construction paper
* Calculators
* Post-it-Notes
* Crayons
* Pencil sharpeners
* Safety scissors
* backpacks
* Scotch Tape
* Metric rulers
* Glue Sticks
* Erasers
* Pencil Pouches
* Geometry Sets
* Jump Ropes
* Markers
Sam will hand deliver these supplies to the North American Conference on Ethiopian Jewry organization affiliate in Jerusalem in December 2008 when he goes to Israel to celebrate his Bar Mitzvah.
To help with this endeavor, and to perform Tikkin Olam (repairing the world), we would appreciate it very much if you or your kids could purchase one of the school supplies listed above by Yom Kippur. Please bring it to Sunday School during September or the sanctuary during the High Holy Days. Bags labeled for this project will be available at Sunday school (ask Danielle for details) and the sanctuary during High Holy Days.
Thank you (toda rabba) in advance for helping Sam with his Bar Mitzvah project, performing Tikkun Olam, and assisting Ethiopian Israeli kids with their education.

September 9, 2008 @ 9:07 amI am the founder of a charity, called I’ve Done My Part, Inc., which I think you might be interested in supporting. I’ve Done My Part, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity. Please donate and/or add our link to your web site, http://www.ivedonemypart.org . Our target audiences are the parents throwing a Bar/Bat Mitzvah party and the vendors who provide services for these parties. On our web site, under the “Charities” tab, http://www.ivedonemypart.org/charities, there is a list of more than 20 US based Jewish charities whom we support. All have been evaluated by us and most have received 3-4 stars by Charity Navigator, a non-profit organization who evaluates and rates other non-profits. The charities we support, must comply with our mission, which is to support child welfare, poverty, religious and Holocaust awareness and tolerance towards the betterment of the Jewish religion.
Unlike other “conduit” type of charities, a charity who donates to other charities, IDMP donates 100% of all donations received from parents and children, eliminating the middleman. Our internal costs are covered by donations from vendors servicing Bar/Bat Mitzvah parties. Our overhead is low and approximately 90% of vendor donations will still go to the charity or charities requested by the vendor but the other 10% will go to I’ve Done My Part, Inc. to help with our internal administrative costs.
Thank you,
